My baby turned one at the beginning of June and we had a Dr. Seuss-themed birthday party for him. Almost all of his cousins were there (his new baby cousin was only about a week old so she stayed home) and it was so much fun!

I loved putting this birthday party together! It was such a blast looking through all the great ideas online and coming up with some on my own. At one point I wondered if I was doing this for me or for my baby! But the party turned out to be so much fun and I think the kids loved it.

When going through other blogs and sites for ideas, I found it really helpful when the bloggers gave details about where and how they did what they did. So that’s exactly what I’m doing with this post! All party credits and extra details are listed near the bottom of this post. The ideas in this post can be used for any age. (And did I mention there are two FREE printables in this post?! If you use either of them and do a post later, I would appreciate the mention!)

We had the party at my in-law’s house in Idaho and they have the perfect backyard. When I envisioned everything for the party it was this spot that I wanted the main table to sit. I found the banner on Etsy and was so thrilled when I did! These colors and the look of this banner were exactly what I was looking for, and this was the only one I could find like it.
Isn’t that Cat in the Hat poster just the best? I found it on Amazon for around $15. (I plan to use it in a play room one day!) It comes in three or fours different sections (it’s a bulletin board poster) then I bought foam board and cut those up to make the backing. It turned out so cute and the kids loved it!
Decorations were easy for this party! I propped up Dr. Seuss books that I already had and borrowed the stuffed Horton from my twin sister. I created and printed the subway art printable, framed it, and placed it on a stack of Dr. Seuss books to give more height to the table. (Free printable #1!)
seussjuice

I made little food name tents for the different foods served at the party. I called this drink “Seuss Juice” (blue Hawaiian punch).

After seeing all the Thing 1 and Thing 2 cupcakes out there I really wanted to make some for dessert for this party. Super cute and super easy! (Free printable #2!)
“Cat in the Hat” Kabobs (layered strawberries and marshmallows)
“Green Eggs and Ham” and Turkey Sandwiches
I realized quickly that I had planned for more than would fit on the tables available, so we combined a few things together on the gift table. It worked out just great!
Each of the kids got a name tag when they came in. It’s hard to tell but the Cat in the Hat is on each name tag. I bought red, blue, and yellow popcorn from a local popcorn shop (Best flavored popcorn I’ve ever had!) and put 1 cup servings in little cellophane bags from Zurcher’s (“Hop on Pop” Corn). The blue tub came from the Dollar Store. The framed printable is sitting on another stack of Dr. Seuss books. I had this stuffed guy already so he became part of the decor!
On the other side of the table was the truffula tree seed planting station. I created a printable including a section of the book “The Lorax” where the Once-ler talks about planting the very last truffula tree seed and how important it is to take care of it. I read the poem to the kids and they each planted four or five truffula tree seeds (Zenia seeds) in a cup. I borrowed the stuffed Lorax from my sweet niece as well as her Lorax book for simple decorations.
Some of the kids planting their seeds. The dads were really great helpers!

Besides the truffula tree seed planting station we had a “One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish” pond. The kids fished for a super fun Dr. Seuss pencil with the big character erasers on top. They loved it!
(My incredibly talented father-in-law made the posters for me, as well as set up the fish pond!
So awesome.)
My awesome nephews taking charge of the fish pond.
The birthday boy fishing for a pencil with the help of Daddy.
And one of the funnest things about the party was the Thing 1 and Thing 2 cutout my father-in-law made. We got pictures with almost everyone who came to the party sticking their faces in this awesome thing. So fun!
Besides sleeping for the first half, I think my little man enjoyed his party! He definitely enjoyed his cupcake. I couldn’t even get him to look up for a picture!

Me and my wife spend time with our kid and do such creative activities. We often take our kid to indoor play centre equipment (as he likes it a lot). The combination of physical and creative activity play a vital role in building a child’s character, that’s what we believe.

Thanks, Adrienne! I made those in Photoshop. I downloaded the fonts I needed and found a polka dot background for the little name tents.
