One of my favorite holiday traditions is attending a cookie exchange party. Everyone brings a plate of cookies to share and each person gets to take home one of each cookie, including the recipe. You literally get dozens of different cookies. It’s such a blast! There’s nothing better than seeing all of the cookies out on all of their plates and getting to go around and fill up your bags with so many delicious recipes. I’m excited to be partnering with some of my favorite food blogging friends today to bring you a virtual Christmas cookie exchange.
The recipe I’m sharing is one of my very favorites. It’s hard for me not to just sit and eat the dough with a spoon!
This is my very favorite cookie dough recipe EVER. It is THAT good! These cookies are so chewy and moist. And the M&M’s add a nice crunch as well as an amazing chocolate flavor. They’re perfect for a cookie exchange party or for neighbor treat plates this Christmas!
Christmas M&M Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 c. butter at room temperature
- 2 eggs
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 small box instant vanilla pudding
- 2 c. flour
- 1 c. Christmas M&M's
Instructions
- Cream together butter and both sugars; add egg and vanilla.
- In a small bowl, whisk together salt, baking soda, and pudding. Add the dry mixture to the butter mixture, then slowly add flour.
- Add M&M's to the dough with a wooden spoon. Cover and place in the refrigerator while the oven heats to 375°.
- Drop dough by the spoonful or with a cookie scoop onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake 7-8 minutes, or until lightly golden on top.

I tried this recipe 3 different times, and each time the cookies turned out greasy, flat, and way too sugary. I tried adjusting certain aspects to them like flour, oven temperature and time, sugar amounts, all of it, but with the same results. I think it’s because of the instant vanilla pudding but I’m unsure.

Hi Cece, I’m so sorry that the recipe didn’t turn out for you. Flat and greasy cookies can happen for a couple of reasons: the oven might be too hot or there might not be enough flour in the dough. I have to bake my cookies at a lower temp because my oven gets too hot, usually by about 15°. Again, I’m so sorry that the recipe didn’t work out! This is my go-to chocolate recipe so I hope you would be willing to try it again sometime.
